A Call To Philanthropic Souls

Alas, Give Me A Mac has been up for a while now but no bites yet. Obviously I could use a new Mac myself (oh the frustrations of being told time and time again that I need an Intel-based Mac to do my work) as this old G4 limps along. However, that’s not my main hope here. My main hope is getting this foundation up and running. There HAS to be some philanthropy-minded folks out there somewhere who think “damn, that’s a good idea. I’d love to be a part of that” and help get this thing off the ground.

I know we’re in a recession and people don’t have spare money or machines to give away. Well, actually people do have that. It’s the middle and lower class that are getting hit especially hard right now. I want to help out the unfortunate. I can’t say I’m super pleased with the situation I’m in right now but I know there are people in a much worse situation. Kids that haven’t even touched a computer, let alone own one. Enterprising young souls that just need the tools in order to succeed. We can do this. I know we can. This is a call to those that want to give everyone a chance out there.

My search for a new Mac for myself continues. My search for a someone who wants to help others also continues. I will not let this idea die. We can impact the lives of others as soon as we can build the underlying infrastructure and then start moving on with our plan. I can’t do it alone. Oh trust me, I’d love to, but it’s just not feasible right now. Let’s do this people!

Speaking of philanthropy and helping various causes, I will be partaking in a fundraising ride for the MS Society. I will be riding my bike 150 miles next weekend (June 27-28) up in Rhode Island to help raise money for research and for those in need. If you’d like to make a donation (which I could still use a few to reach my goal), feel free to go to my donation page and donate what you can. Next year I plan on doing a bunch of rides for cancer as I’ve lost a few family members to cancer in the past few years. Down with cancer I say!

Give Me a Mac

And so it begins…the birth of Give Me a Mac. After feeling frustrated time and time again as I try to work on various projects I realized that I NEED to get a new Mac. Yes, it would be nice to work on something faster but it was the “you need an Intel-based Mac to use this software” issue that is cropping up more and more that finally made me throw my arms up in mind disgust. I want to use Titanium to develop some new apps. I want to use Nambu to streamline my nutty social media life. Using Final Cut Pro would be so much less frustrating on a Mac that doesn’t take half a day to render something.

All that was fine and dandy. I need a new Mac. That’s all there is to it. Then I had some goofy TV show on in the background while doing some work and I was seeing how people were getting ridiculous things on the net. Hm…why can’t I do that? However, after acquiring the URL givemeamac.com I realized that this may actually become a bit of a success. Sweet! Being the giver that I am, I want to use this as a platform to get Macs in the hands of others that may need an upgrade or need a new setup entirely. Thus, Give Me a Mac was born.

Updates shall flow freely once I get things up and running. Again, I’m running a bit slower than I’d like as I’m using a machine (G4 PowerBook) that is either incapable of running certain applications altogether or simply moves at a snail’s pace for other functions. In my never ending quest to create and improve I must also survive. Alas…good things shall come!

Stay tuned and believe in all the goodness that is Give Me a Mac.
