About Give Me a Mac

Give Me a Mac is a simple concept. There are people out there that need Macs and there are people and organizations that have Macs that they don't need anymore. I see a simple solution here. As stated on the home page, I myself need a new Mac. My old G4 PowerBook is physically old and abused. The hard drive (which has already been upgraded) is full again. The G4 processor is not capable of running some of the new apps that require an Intel processor. And video work? I've had to put all that on hold as this thing crawls now while trying to use Final Cut Pro. Thus, my creative juices (video) and geeky tendencies (creating apps of my own) are severely hindered. Hence, Give Me a Mac was born.

The Future of Give Me a Mac

I'm not a greedy person. In fact, those that know me have come to know someone who usually gives to others before giving to himself. After getting my current needs fulfilled I want to build a vibrant community for creating the connection between those who want to provide Macs to those who need Macs. My current thoughts of who to provide for are as follows:

  • Schools
  • Charities
  • Setting up a scholarship fund
  • Inner-city and other needy users

Luckily I've got loads of experience working on Macs so I'll be able to fix up some that have been discarded due to technical issues. For really old machines (G3s and such) I'll ponder switching them over to run Linux and provide those to other geeks that need a new platform to learn.

At some point this will venture will grow and will need to form into a structured organization. Luckily I've got loads of attorneys to call on for building the structure and have been involved in numerous entrepreneurial ventures myself, thus it won't be a tough growth pattern.
